Job Description

Key responsibilities for this role:

Reporting to Silviculture Manager, the Gippsland Plantations Investment Program (GPIP) Coordinator is responsible for supporting the property acquisition team through the acquisition and will work with the Silviculture team to ensure all risks are managed through to establishment. Key accountabilities include: 

  • Evaluate and develop establishment plans for possible properties HVP may acquire for plantation expansion.
  • Ensure that robust models are built to support acquisition, managing all risks on site as appropriate for the stage in the acquisition process.
  • Develop site preparation plans for each property acquired, considering both Silviculture requirements and Harvesting.
  • Make initial plans for any works required for new properties, for example demolition.
  • Manage any cultural heritage processes as per the HVP guidelines.
  • Support and mentor District Foresters in their roles.
  • Participate in aerial herbicide programs for plantation establishment
  • Supervision and management of Contractors including ensuring Contractor compliance within legislative HVP Occupational Health & Safety parameters and Environmental Management System standards.
  • Monitor costs and review outcomes of applicable plantation management operations for the purposes of budget preparation, benchmarking and contractor performance.  Regularly evaluate the cost effectiveness of plantation management activities.
  • Participate in or lead other programs as directed by the Silviculture Manager

To thrive in this role, you will ideally possess:

  • Experience in softwood Forestry particularly in planning, budgeting and implementation of silvicultural, harvesting and forest protection activities.
  • High level of GIS systems knowledge and utilisation.
  • Ability to identify where change is required, manage significant change in practices and bring staff and contractors along for the journey to deliver sustainable change.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and confidently (verbal and written), possess good negotiation skills, establish and maintain good staff, contractor and customer relationships.
  • High level of skill in the Microsoft suite of programs – particularly Word & Excel.
  • Ability to work autonomously to achieve company outcomes within a commercial environment.
  • A relevant tertiary qualification is preferred for this position.
  • Commitment and heightened awareness of our First Nations Peoples, environmental and safety performance of HVP operations.

Other information

  • This position may require you to travel to other HVP office locations and at times, overnight travel. A current Australian driver’s licence is required.
