The opportunity
Reporting to the Gippsland Harvesting and Roading Manager, the Harvesting Coordinator supervises district foresters and contractors to conduct plantation harvesting operations in a safe, environmentally compliant and commercial manner. The role coordinates crews, operations, contractors and program development, with a strong focus on innovation, quality control and continuous improvement.
Key aspects of this role include:
- Lead safe, environmentally compliant harvesting operations and promote HVP’s Zero Harm culture.
- Lead, support and mentor district foresters and contractors in day-to-day harvesting operations.
- Coordinate harvesting plans and field operations to meet production, quality, value recovery and customer requirements.
- Manage contractor performance, delivery data, costs and opportunities for continuous improvement.
- Coordinate the Gippsland value recovery program, environmental audits and operational risk controls.
- Build effective relationships with customers, contractors, neighbours, local government and other stakeholders
- Support broader regional activities, including fire preparedness and acting for the Harvesting Manager as required.
What you will need to succeed:
- A strong commitment to workplace safety, environmental performance and positive social outcomes.
- Contemporary and relevant forestry experience, particularly in harvesting operations, contractor management, budgeting, benchmarking and quality control.
- Proven ability to lead, support and mentor field-based staff and maintain effective working relationships.
- Clear and confident communication, strong negotiation skills and the ability to manage commercial and community relationships.
- Ability to work autonomously, understand processes and implement changes that improve operational performance and value.
- Experience reviewing and implementing cost-effective harvesting systems and works programs within budget.
- Competence using Microsoft applications and GIS systems.
- Ability to lead in fire prevention and suppression activities.
- A current Australian Driver Licence (mandatory).
- A relevant tertiary qualification is preferred.
